Free events and RSVP-only tickets

Matter Tickets supports completely free events. There are no fees on free tickets — organizers and attendees both pay nothing.

Setting up a free event

Create a ticket type and set the price to $0. That's it. The checkout flow still runs (so you can collect attendee names and email addresses), but no payment details are requested.

Attendees receive a confirmation email with their QR ticket, just like a paid event. You can check them in at the door with the scanner the same way.

Collecting RSVPs

Free tickets work well as RSVPs. Attendees register, you get their contact details, and they receive a ticket to show at the door. You can see exactly who's coming from the Attendees tab.

Limiting capacity on free events

Set a quantity on your free ticket type to cap attendance. Once that number is reached, the ticket shows as sold out. You can enable a waitlist so people can sign up if spots open.

No Stripe required for free events

You only need to connect Stripe if you're collecting payment. Free events can be published and managed without a Stripe account.
