What happens when my event sells out?
When all ticket types reach their capacity limit, your event page automatically shows a sold-out state. The buy button is replaced with a sold-out message, and buyers can no longer check out.
The waitlist
Once sold out, a Join the waitlist option appears on your event page. Interested buyers can enter their name and email to be notified if spots open up. You manage outreach to the waitlist yourself — Matter Tickets doesn't automatically email them when capacity increases. Learn more about the waitlist.
Adding more capacity
If you decide to increase your ticket quantity, update it from the Ticket types page. As soon as you save, the event becomes purchasable again and the sold-out state clears.
What "sold out" means per ticket type
Each ticket type has its own capacity. If you have General Admission and VIP tickets, "sold out" for GA doesn't affect VIP availability. The event only shows as fully sold out when every ticket type with a quantity set has sold through.
Ticket types with no quantity set (unlimited) never sell out.
Holds and sold-out
If you have holds on a ticket type, those reserved tickets count against the total quantity but aren't available to the public. A ticket type can appear sold out to buyers while held tickets still exist. To release held inventory, delete the hold.
